The Test Center is an in-person, computer-based proctoring service that is supported by the Computer Science and Engineering Department.

Our role is to: Provide a secure testing environment where students can take computer-based exams. Relieve the instructors and staff from managing the logistics of exams.

  • How is CS Test Center Useful?
    • Reduces the burden of exam logistics and grading for course staff.
    • Ensures a secure testing environment with trained proctors and network filtering.
    • Enables frequent, smaller exams to reduce student anxiety and better reflect learning.
    • Provides students with immediate exam performance feedback.
    • Allows for second-chance exams, assisting struggling students in mastering missed concepts.
    • Each CSE Test Center exam has a multi-day testing window, offering students flexible scheduling through our online tool, PrairieTest.
    • Student workstations have web browsers for canvas access.
    • A firewall prevents access to unauthorized materials.

    Missed/Conflict Exams During Exam Window:

    Student Responsibility:

    • Visit the CSE Test Center to reschedule the exam within the remaining exam window.

    Instructor Responsibility:

    • None; no Instructor intervention required.

    Missed/Conflict Exams After Exam Window:

    Student Responsibility:

    • Request an override from course staff and schedule at the CSE Test Center during the extended exam window (if granted).

    Instructor Responsibility:

    • Determine if an extension is needed and, if so, enter it in PrairieTest, instructing students to register at the CSE Test Center.

Is the CSE TestCenter Right for Your Course?

If you answer "yes" to the following questions, the CSE TestCenter may be a suitable choice:

  • Is your course conducted in person?
  • Do you use PrairieLearn or can integrate canvas with PrairieTest?
  • Are you comfortable with CSE Test Center handling all exam logistics?
  • Are you open to adapting your exams to CSE Test Center standards (e.g., 50-minute exams, limited allowed materials, asynchronous exam delivery)?
  • Can you finalize your exam schedule well in advance?
